Jewell Sperry Chase was born in Oshkosh on August 28, 1888, the oldest daughter of Charles Curry Chase and Maria Melvina "Nia" Sawyer Chase. She was the grand-daughter of Edgar Sawyer and great-grand-daughter of Philetus Sawyer. She attended Oshkosh Normal School; married Roy B. Meredith October 18, 1912; resided in Appleton until returning to Oshkosh in 1919; Chicago in 1924; two surviving children: Edgar Meredith and Patricia Meredith; and a son John Meredith who died in childhood; Jewell died March 16, 1935 in Chicago.
