John A. Tolman was the son of William W. Tolman and Jennie Lambert Tolman. He was born March 4, 1889, probably in Nebraska. His family returned to Oshkosh prior to 1898. He was a musician and played in Carroll's Waupaca Band and the Ariel Band. In 1916 John was working as a truck driver for Cook & Brown Lime Company; 1919 as a driver for Yapp Oil Company; and in 1920 he worked as an engineer. He was married September 12, 1915 to a woman named Anna. He and Anna divorced on April 30, 1927. He died December 6, 1969.
