Notes Thumb-print view of Maria Malvina "Nia" Sawyer Chase holding her daughter Jewell Sperry Chase. She wears a light colored dress with lace collar and mutton sleeves. Jewell is wearing a white infant's dressing gown. Slightly diffent pose, but taken at the same time as several other images of mother and daughter. Nia Sawyer was born on July 18, 1865 in Fond du Lac, WI. She was the daughter of Edgar P. and Mary Jewell Sawyer. She attended Oshkosh schools and the Oshkosh Normal School. She married Charles Curry Chase June 2, 1886. She was active in her father's companies; the Sawyer Company, Wisconsin Delaware Company and Sawyer Cattle Company in Texas. She had three daughters that survived; Jewell Chase Meredith; Elanor Chase Fatio and Charlotte Chase Fenton. She lived her last year in Palm Beach, Florida and died at the family's summer home on Lake Butte de Morte "Waldwic" in 1935. Jewell married Roy Meredith in 1912 and died in Chicago in 1935.
