Notes Bust view of William Owen Goodman wearing a dark suit with tie and a large moustache. William Owen Goodman was born in Pennsylvania in 1848. He came to Chicago from Pennsylvania at age 20. He worked first as a bookkeeper and then as a lumber salesman. Goodman eventually started investing in lumber, and in 1878 organized the Sawyer-Goodman Lumber Co., of which he eventually became president. He married Erna Sawyer on October 31, 1878 in her father Philetus Sawyer's home in Oshkosh. They resided in Chicago, Illinois. Their son, Lieutenant Kenneth Goodman, born September 19, 1883, died at Great Lakes Training Center of influenza in 1918. The Goodman Theater in Chicago was built by the family in their son's honor. He died of pneumonia in Chicago in 1936. Burried at Graceland Cemetery, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.
