Notes Bust view of Mary Elanor Jewell Sawyer wearing a dark dress and bead- work. She also wears ear bobs. This was taken close to the same time as P2001.1.39-41. Mary Elanor Jewell was born in Canaan, NY on July 3, 1842. Daughter of Henry Chapin Jewell; wealthy Oshkosh lumberman, Mayor of Oshkosh, and state congressman who came to Wisconsin in 1843 and Oshkosh in 1852. She married Edgar Philetus Sawyer on October 18, 1864. They had two children; Maria Melvina "Nia" Sawyer Chase and Philetus "Phil" Horace Sawyer. She died November, 1910.
