Arthur Everett was born on July 4, 1840 in Princeton, Illinois, the son of Harriet Cordelia Hyde and James Smith Everett. He came to Oshkosh about 1865. From that year until 1873 he was the principle of Oshksoh High School. He was most noted for introducing the graded school system. He married another Oshkosh school teacher, Clarissa Winters, on December 24, 1868. The couple had two children together: John Winter Everett, born October 22, 1870; and Mary Louisa Everett, born March 15, 1872. The "Oshkosh Everetts" baseball team was named in honor of him, because of his advocacy for sports. He died July 14, 1873 in Oshkosh. Active: 1865 - 1873 Date Note: circa date on birth |
