William Stanley Jung was born in School Hill, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin on May 9, 1893, the son of Mathias and Josephine Daron Jung. He enlisted in Company H, 2nd Wisconsin National Guard in 1911 and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on January 6, 1915. He saw service on the Mexican Border in 1916. In 1917, he and his wife Charlotte and daughter Velma were living in Manitowoc, where William was employed as a laborer in an aluminum factory. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and assigned to Company C, 150th MGB on July 26, 1917. He was slightly wounded during a hand grenade demonstration in February, 1918. On July 29, 1918 he was severely wounded by a machine gun bullet that passed through his stomach. He returned to Manitowoc after the war and was working as a tinsmith by 1920. In 1930 he was living in Milwaukee with his wife and three children and was working as a mason. He died February 3, 1961, and is buried in Graceland Cemetery in Milwaukee under a military marker. |
