James H. Merrill began practicing law in 1868. He was a Winnebago County Supervisor from Winneconne in 1872, 1874, and 1875. By 1876 he was practicing law in Oshkosh. He beacame a Justice of the Peace in 1890, a Municipal Judge in 1893, He was elected Mayor of Oshkosh in 1899 and died in office June 1900. Merrill School was named in his honor. |
