Erna Sturtevant Gavett was born in the town of Algoma, Wisconsin, March 15, 1878, the daughter of John Hadley Sturtevant and Susan Humes Sturtevant. She attended Oshkosh High School and Oshkosh Normal School and was a graduate of the Artists' Guild of New York City. On April 19,1906 she married Ward Gavett of Detroit, Michigan. She lived in Detroit, New York City, Chicago and Milwaukee, spending more time in Oshkosh after her mother's death in 1932. Erna Sturtevant Gavett was a member of the Episcopal Church, Daughters of the American Revolution Oshkosh Chapter, Benjamin Talmadge Chapter of Milwaukee, the Fort Pontchartrain Chapter of Detroit and the United States Daughters of 1812 of Michigan. She died on December 9, 1940 in Oshkosh and is buried in Riverside Cemetery. |
