Description |
Gelatin print on white milk glass mounted in a 14kt gold oval case of Prescott Sawyer Chase. The case has a ring at the top and is set in a velvet lined jewler's case with hinge and spring clasp at the bottom. The case can come apart to form a stand. The image is hand tinted in color. An incription on the back reads, "Prescott Sawyer Chase/April 20, 1899/February 1, 1900". It is also stamped on the bottom, "B. S. & F./14 K". The interior of the lid has an impressed maker's mark, "Black, Starr, & Frost/5th Ave. & Cor. 39.ST/New York". The image is based on a photograph taken by Daniel L. Johnson in Oshkosh see P2001.1.307.. |
