Description |
A sewing case made by Ruth Fernandez for her brother, Samuel Fernandez. The case itself is made from linen and sewn together with thick black thread. The linen is tan in color. Inside the case contains two pouches and a sewn on pin cushion. A note was found inside the case per donor, "Sewing case made for brother (Sam) of Grandfather Fernandez. He took this when he was in the Civil War. Ruth Fernandez made the case. Case may not have ever gone through the ivil War givin its condition. E 9/7/02". Samuel was also the brother of Dudly Woodbridge Fernandez. The case was made for Samuel to use in the American Civil War. He served in the 21st Wisconsin Regiment from September 5, 1862 until June 8, 1865. He was served as quartermaster as a sergeant and was later promoted to lieutenant. |
