Oil painting of winter scene. 11/28/2016 email from conservator Barry Bauman: "The artist has perfectly captured a quiet inviting winter scene. The trees bend ever so slightly in their winter naked verisimilitude." Email Comment by conservator Barry Bauman 11/28/2016 to Deb Daubert: The snow tones in the ptg. are quite sophisticated from a slight egg-shell color for the whites, and then moments where he added a soft blue into the half and dark tones. This is very similar to Monet's palette who also would move towards alizarin for some of the half-tones, something Behncke did not do--but the warm blues instead of a darker white work perfectly. Once again, this is a very fine ptg. 11/26/2018:New frame made by Hobby Lobby for $190.50. Since frames are not made a deep an extender was first ordered in a matching beaded gold. However that was not available any longer so had to settle for a plain black (that is planned to be made gold after exhibit comes down). Selected frame similar to other paintings done by G. Behncke 09/17/2016 frame damaged in shipment to Bauman Conservation, discarded by conservator (wood, 38.75" W, 24.75" H). |
