Description |
Silver handled walking stick (cane) with .750: German silver (nickel) tip with steel insert, and plain dark brown hardwood shaft of approx. .750" in diameter where it joins the handle. Hollow silver is threaded to shaft and handle is decorated with classical motif consisting of what appears to be three (3) ancient Roman faces in helmets and the incised word "ROMA". Base of handle marked "LYON MAKER STERLING" and below in small capital letters "E.P. SAWYER" Walking sticks were a sign of social standing and not necessarily to aid walking. |
