Description |
Part of sailor's kit. Cow horn with 10 sailmaker's needles held in solidified tallow. The tallow was used to lubricate the needle to ease its passage through multiple layers of canvas. There is a leather belt hanger at the top of horn. Incised on front "I. M." Incised on back in German: "God with us." Incised decorative motifs consisting of cross and anchor, heart, star, and vines. |
