Description |
Banner: printed cotton triangle; top half is blue with white letters "WELCOME/ HOME/ HEROES" with four white stars; bottom has seven alternating red and white vertical stripes; stapled to a wooden rod. These were hung in the windows of Oshkosh stores and homes when soldiers were returning home. Save by World War I veteran Otto Suess. He was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin October 10, 1890. He worked as a shipping clerk prior to enlisting in Company F, 2nd Wisconsin National Guard on May 21, 1917. He transferred with the rest of the company to the US Army and was assigned to Company C, 150th Machine Gun Battalion. He was later assigned to the Headquarters Detachment on June 26, 1918. He was promoted to Private First Class on November 28, 1917 and Corporal. He survived the war and returned April 28, 1919. |
